Be it Writing Workshop, 6+1 Traits, Daily 5's "Work on Writing", a script-writing tool that uses writing skills in your basals or any other method, you will find a treasury of opportunities to work with whole groups, small groups or single authors. " The Writing Strategies Book allows you to make this kind of distinction with your authors every single workday. In this book, my goal is to provide my preferred, most useful set of strategies that cover all facets of the writing processes, all styles and spellings, and that work well with K-8 grade pupils.

I' ve tightened up the languages and samples, and I' m presenting the strategies in a form that is organised so that the employed teachers can find just the right one at the right time. Every section in this book concentrates on one of ten possible objectives. On the first pages of each section you will find a brief summary of what the objective is and why it is important, and a short section on how to find out if it is suitable for the pupil to whom you want to teach it.

The choice of a suitable objective presupposes that you have a profound understanding of your pupils, which you have of course acquired through assessment, but also through discussions with your pupils and getting to know them as human beings. They will probably be spending hours watching them as they are writing and attending meetings to find out more about their interests and aspirations for their writing.

Writing Strategies Book can be used efficiently with almost any writing programme or method. In order to help you align your lessons with the strategies in her book, Jennifer Serravallo has designed a zebra crossover to several frequently used writing styles and programmes.
