Recreation Writing Retreats in Scotland Writers' recreation is the ideal way to focus on writing in a nice, inspirational environment. These are some of the spiritual exercises Scotland has to provide. The Moniack Mhor Creativity Writing Centre is situated in the Scottish Highlands, only fourteen kilometres from the Scottish town of Inverness. Moniack Mhor has been offering writing courses since 1993, taught by some of the best writers in the UK and beyond.

There are a number of courses and seminars at the school. The Glencanisp Lodge in the north-west Highlands of Scotland hosts a program of recreational and educational courses, seminars and clinics throughout the year. The Cove Park Residency Program provides an opportunity for domestic and foreign artist to conduct research and create new work.

The St Mary's space is a multidisciplinary creativity room with lodging on the western coastline of Scotland. An inviting, comfortable and accessible refuge in the Scotch hills, available to performers of all genres. Ardtornish Farm provides a wide range of self-catering accommodations throughout the year. Davaar Island Cottages is a breathtaking, remote place for a writing holiday.

Scottish Storytelling Centre provides several rooms for writing groups or work shops for a uniquely imaginative ambience. The Heriot Toun Studios is an environmentally safe living/working room in the Scottish Borders, offering living and working room under one umbrella with self-catering accommodations for up to five people. It is an excellent place to work on a specific topic, to lead a work shop, or for those looking for a rest in an inspirational environment.

The Crear is an inspiring workroom with room for up to 11 persons. This is a great source for events and festivities, holiday and recreation, art and commerce. On Iona, a writing retreat takes place annually, mostly in the Argyll Hotel. This course is taught by Angela Locke, a author, novelist, poetess, and author-in-residence.
