Kurt Vonnegut was never boring when it came to advising authors. At times a good short story just gives us the turning point, the point at which a man makes a decisive one. Humans sometimes think that sci-fi tales should be inherently difficult - the clash alert goes off, the undetected new item has strange characteristics, someone makes a definitive selection, the end.

Some of the best tales in the game are really just a collection of great pictures or a few really great characters in a fascinating environment. Well, at least that's a good way to change the tempo if you've made a few very plot-heavy snippets. 9) If you get lost in a particular story, you probably haven't found what it's about yet.

Perhaps the actual topic or concept of your story is something you have only marginally mentioned. When you find out what your story is all about, you get the feeling that it is driving you forward with its relentless logical. That'?s the whole concept. 10 ) Try an excercise, like re-writing a known story from a different angle.

Rewrite Star Wars from Leia's point of views - maybe you can't release them unless you're really good at fileing the numbers and making them your own. However, sometimes it is good to try an excercise. Or, try to write an autobiographic story with an item optimized to become sci-fi.

Or, try writing a story backwards, so start at the end and work your way back to the beginning. While it may seem like a kind of fraud, part of "writing a short story every day" may involve the fact that some of these short story writing tutorials may or may not be what you want to do.

It is important to get used to produce a completed play of fantasy every single weekend - or however often you do it. Don't think of every single one of these pups as THE STORY THAT WILL REPUT YOUR WELL BETWEEN THE BRING OF THE REFUTATION IN THE BROAD OF THE BRIDGE.

Many of these tales will never appear in printed form, or they will appear in a small magazine or a low-profile website. Perhaps no one will see this special story, except you and maybe your boyfriends you are begging to look at it. You sometimes can't find the parameter of a good, sound short story writing until you find and overcome the external boundaries.

You can go one better - just go on reading Clarkesworld, Asimovs or Weird Tales and then take on the challenge of writing a story that is perfectly tailored to each of these demagneti. Don't just tear down the tales that these journals have already released, because you will only make a poor copy and the writers will be able to tell.

Instead, sit down a new mag to try and capture every weekly - think about the kind of story Asimov's like publishing, and come up with your own twist on this kind of story. Choose a different weekly mag and try to cut a story concept you came up with for this pub.

It will compel you to change your styles and approaches from story to story and give you a purpose to work towards. You may or may not be breaking into one of these journals - but at least the study of another journal every month forces you to study a great deal of fantasy and think about what the writers do in each journal and how you can teach from them.

Short story writing can be a good way to be perceived as a sci-fi writer, or simply a way to refine your trade before you start writing your hard-boiled 10,000,000,000,000 words novel that stretches over ten billion years in the lifetime of an eternal, GM mega-computer in the form of a jellyfish.

Be productive either way, being productive can be a great way to tell memorable tales.
