To format your company's or yourself's manuscripts

Correct editing of your script is indispensable if you want to send it to an agency, publishers or editors. First of all, find, review and adhere to these guidelines - don't make the error of believing that it doesn't really care if you don't, or your own style concepts are better.

The standard publisher application for manuscript browsing and review. Use only one single fonts (font), also for all continuous texts and headlines. Adhere to a popular, commonly used fonts, not something you think is more appealing or ingenious. Do you want to be sure that the one you send your ms to has the same fonts on their computer, or your format may appear wrong.

Two of the most secure are Times New Roman, a typewriter that is preferred by some publishing houses; and Arial (our preference), the most widely used type. Whatever you use, stay with it - don't try to be imaginative by inserting some parts into another style or trying to display the manuscript with an italic type.

Whatever fonts you select, the sizes should be consistently set to either a full twelve ths of apt or monochrome. Italicize headlines and highlights, captions, and non-English words (do not emphasize - this processing conventions have been used in handwritten or typed scripts to indicate what should be italicized in the typesetting). Mark and use the tab for the italics and italics; do not modify the script to e.g. "Arial Bold" or "Times New Roman Italic".

If you do not use capital letters for highlighting - or heavy italic, come to it. The page margin should be one inches around the page (this is the standard MS Word setting). paragraph should either have two line breaks or the first line should begin with a 0.5-inch indentation, but not both.

It is preferable to use non-indented heels with a distance between them that are more easily marked and mean less work for a type setter. When indenting a paragraph, the indentation should be tabbed, not by repeatedly pushing the Spacebar. Any of your checkboxes and formattings must be stripped - and make your manuscripts look more like amateurs than vice versa. Only one blank should follow points/periods - not two. Points, or ellipses, as they are really known, indicate an incomplete thought or, at the end of a phrase, a relapse into stillness..... They should be in this format.

Three ( (no longer) points immediately after the last words, with a blank before the next one. However, they should be used economically, and not instead of the correct punctuation system (they are cut out when you work with us!). Chapters/section headers should be printed inboldface and can be centered or left-aligned.

When you can use the Headlines in Word feature to view the hierarchical structure of your headlines and subheadings within sections, we'll always like you. Text should only be aligned to the right, so that it remains'jagged' on the right side. Ensure consistency in style, orthography and diction.
