But a novel is a long, fictional narrative that describes intimate human experiences. A lot of writers start with short stories before concentrating on writing novels. Short stories are of course an art form in their own right, but when you want to write a novel, it can feel like a very difficult task. Jeff's new position as a business analyst saw him work on new approaches to solving long-term problems in the operations department. This novel is just one of many possible prosaic narratives.

A literary novel?

For years I have been confused about what defines a "literary" novel. So, what are we going to put the Sherlock Holmes fiction and story in? I' m sure there are other samples. The majority of classifications of what makes up a novel emphasize that the theme is strongly focused on nature and humor, with less focus on mere action and more serious exploration of the state of the person and is therefore more expressive and philosophic.

Other people will discount folklore and business writing as non-literary, especially if it's on bestseller list. A few will say that the writer's stylistic idiom, often referred to as "lyrical", is an important determining factor and a reference to the literary concept. There are many references to the so-called "experimental" novel as a valuable example of what is literary, which raises scholarly issues about literatures and various scholarly spin-offs that examine in depth tendencies and motions to see how poetry influences thought, story and civilisation.

James Joyce's Ulysses and Finnegans Wake could be referred to as outstanding exemplary novel. The latter novel raises the question of access. Would that mean that a novel as unavailable as Finnegan's Wake, which is available to a fistful of passionate writers, is a primary defining of a novel?

And is darkness another markers for a novel that is written in literature? Being an English majority, I see the miracles and pleasure of literature as a lifelong occupation and have great regard for those who are living in this beautiful underworld. Nevertheless, the notion is illusory. As far as the novel is concerned, it is simple to discount what is currently quite fashionable as "literary".

" Nevertheless, some writers were extremely famous in their day and far beyond. We have many English samples, such as Dickens, Thackeray, Hardy and others. There are those writers who were less famous in their day, such as the Bront√ęs, Jane Austin, George Meredith and others, who clambered into the Canons.

Others were taken out of the darkness into a worldwide literature greatness, such as Stendhal's The Red and the Black, which hardly ever sells a few dozens of pieces when it was first out. I have many other samples, but I will save the reader the historical literature analogy. When the timeframe comes in, the definitions become even darker.

For example, is permanence an important way of defining what a novel is or will be? What makes a novel a classical novel? What makes a classical one? When a novel is educated at school and relevant to its period, is it a novel? So, is To Kyll a Mockingbird a novel?

It' certainly quite common and is used in many curricula. Then, so is Huckleberry Finn, who was praised as the sowing seeds from which all of America's fiction originates. Has it been designed by Mark Twain as a novel? Does this theme in itself indicate what a novel is, especially when it addresses people' s freedoms or other important topics of our time?

He was sure to be forever hailed as a truly great writer of great diversity. He was another one of my contemporaries. Formerly a favourite, it seemed to have been forgotten over a rock. Do you think his fiction and shorts would stand the test of what is "literary"?

Hemingway and Fitzgerald, on the other side, seem to be continuing undiminished, both seem to have secured a place as literature icon far beyond their lives. Maybe I try too much and attach too much importance to permanence and less to modern judgement, which further reinforces my own bewilderment about the definitions of the novel.

Is the Nobel Prize for Literature suitable for identifying a novel? Hemingway, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Sinclair Lewis, Saul Bellow and many other once-loved authors were among the Nobel Prize laureates. Is such an honour an automatic endowment of literary immortality? No. It is my intuition to choose permanence as fundamental to the definitions of what is literature.

In fact, many a modern, hard-working and serious writer clandestinely believe in his belly that one of these days he could make the break. He is the writer of 32 books and stories in many different tongues.
