What College Courses are needed to become a WriterWhich college courses are needed to become a writer?
Which kind of class should I.....
Hamanda, I think one of the most important things you can do as a writer is TO RELEAS. There' s so much you can teach from good authors when you study their works, remember things that catch your eye - their phraseology, their words, their use of dialogues, their evolution of characters - and try to imitate the things you like in your own work.
Literacy and literacy go together, so I would prep for college by delving into your love - imagination and imagination - from both a literacy and a literary perspective. Start a bookshop so that you have a steady way to study, debate and analyse.
If you' re interested, see if you can find a group. Perhaps 3, 4 or 5 persons who like to contribute - they take turns to submit work (maybe just a few pages of work or a section in a novel) and give each other mutual comment. Sometimes, as authors, we "stuck" in our histories and personalities that it is the outsider who can take an impartial view from which our work benefits most.
In order to go with what Dan said above, do your homework onto Colleges you are considering. Also research where some of your favourite writers went to college! It never hurt to e-mail or post to your favourite writers - be it through the publishers, a Facebook page or some other formal channel.
You' ll be amazed that some are writing back! The best way to plan a way for yourself is to see how those who went the same way before you did it.
