Some' how to' books make a great deal of sense: cook books, garden books, DIY-handbooks. Is it worthwhile to write books? These books can be useful, but they will only get you so far. It can give you advices and hints, even inspirations and motivations, but when it begins to give step-by-step guidance on how to write a novel, it ceases to be a useful resourcec. Although Stephen King himself has authored a "How to Write" volume, the writer's capacity to learn his trade also seems doubtful.

Belletristicians, including today's firm, don't know much about what they do - not why it works when it's good, not why it doesn't work when it's not. What applies to one of the key factors why an author needs more than one product to produce compelling contents - most of the times it is not possible to tell which reader he will associate with, especially since all of them are different.

There' s no incantation to write a winning script - if there was, we would all do it, as W. Somerset Maugham once said: You have three different ways of composing a novel. Surprisingly, Stephen King's famed memoirs "About writing"..... Don't discard your textbooks yet, because there are definitely things that can be learnt from a series of instructions: vocabulary and phraseology, the use of positive and negative voices, perhaps even more specialized abilities such as dialog and production work.

Although these abilities should not be ignored, they are not the only things that have to do with it. In her memoire, The Getaway Car, Ann Patchett says, "Art is on the back of the handicraft, which means that you have to know the trade to get to it. Apart from the mechanism of typing, one of the most important ways in which these "how to" books can be useful is in the counseling and encouraging they do.

That' s why, if you want to invest in one of these books, I would suggest you write a memorandum, such as Stephen King's On Work, Ann Patchett's The Getaway Car or Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird. It can be highly worthwhile and affirmative to read about how these individuals have written their books, the lesson they have learnt and the support they receive.

In some cases, all you really need from a "how-to-book" is the motivations to begin what you do. Using that in mind, here are some quotes from these books to help get your words onto the page: To stop a bit of work just because it's difficult, either emotional or imaginative, is a poor notion.
