Formatting a short story script - Writing Academy
She is proofreader for Book Cover Cafe and has worked as a book editor for Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazin. Formating short stories differs slightly from reformatting novel manuscripts, and it is always a good idea to review the entry rules for each journal or book you wish to enter.
Journal and anthological writers are as engaged as agencies and publishing houses, so it is important that their first impression of your script is good. What is the default setting for my work? The following are the main formats you need to set for your manuscript: Time New Roman and Arianal typefaces can also be accepted - please review the entry rules of the journal or theology.
Display scenebreaks by pasting a space line and centring the pound character (#) in the middle of this line. Centre a message character # one space line down at the end of the script. The formatting of your contacts is the same as that of the script.
It'?s the beginning of your story. Once you've followed all these stages, you should now have your script reformatted to the industrial standards! The example below shows how your script should look when formatting with the above formatting procedures. Please always review the application rules for manuscripts in the journal or publication to which you are applying!
Have a copy of your script to yourself.
Format Tips & Submission Information
Today's tip of the day comes from Formating & submitting Your Manuscriptby Chuck Sambuchino and the WD Editor. In the following extract you will learn how to enter short novels and give hints for the format of a comment. Short novels are mainly offered in periodicals, literature periodicals, manuscripts and some on-line sites.
And just like fiction, they can cover the spectrum of literary works from literary genres to children's souls. One of the major differences between short story and novel is that short story runs between 1,000 and 20,000 words, while a novel usually runs between 80,000 and 100,000 words. Shortfilms are a separate media and demand a certain size and a certain entry politics.
Continue reading to find out how you can enter your short story for printed and online publication. Submission of short histories is relatively easy. In contrast to a novel, where you usually need to provide a question and answer letters and some example sections and a summary, a short story only requires one covering note and the story as a whole to be sent.
Become a pro by following the right short story style. It is not necessary to have a seperate front page or covers. Do not present any material with hand-written notices. Set the story name, centred in all uppercase letters, about a third of the way from the top to the bottom.
Let four rows in and start your story. The whole text of the story is in two rows. Use a staple in the upper lefthand part of the page to put the pages together (butterfly staples are good for pages longer than ten pages). Keep an authentic version of the story to yourself. Do not write your national insurance number on the script.
Do not use a seperate front page or front page. Don't excuse the text or adjust the right border. Do not put a copyrights note on the script. Do not insert your story on a floppy or CD unless the editors ask for it. Do not use any uncommon type. Do not send your story by e-mail or facsimile to a publisher unless you have the publisher's consent or the entry policy states that it is accepted.
And if so, please see further instructions on how to format your request and write your hints. Format & submit your 3rd edition now!
