It' s common for major publishing houses to publish a hardcover in front of a pocketback. But you need to seriously consider whether this kind of publication is appropriate for your self-published work. Hardcover books are usually very costly to install and manufacture through print-on-demand, and you will find it hard to find a good value for money to buy (and still make a profit).

This is why self-published textbooks are almost always paperback titles.
