In Office 2016 for Windows, Microsoft has made huge changes, but most changes are concealed under a calming, familiarity.
The new release takes the world's most popular and high-performance office applications suites even further away from their competitors, both on-line and desktop-based, especially through their comfortable and highly embedded collaborative capabilities. Like always with Microsoft Office, it is far better than anything else out there, and only a few experienced people will find strange nooks and crannies of discomfort that Microsoft has not gone to the trouble to fix.
Previously available only to Microsoft Office 365 customers, conventional purchasers of stand-alone, unlimited licensed Office 2016 releases will have to maintain it until an indefinite date, but Office 365 customers will be eligible for an immediate upgrad. There' s a multitude of Office 365 price plans, but the custom output of Office 365 begins at $6. 99 per months or $69. 99 per year for use on a computer, a tray, and a telephone.
Featuring no big surprise for the adventuresome user who worked with the Microsoft previews that Microsoft published in May, the ultimate Office 2016 provides an almost shallow educational experience for long-term adopters who are at home working with Word, Excel and PowerPoint and taking comments in OneNote.
Significant changes occur when you begin collaborating in Word, PowerPoint and OneNote, with two or more people working on the same documents at the same time and sharing text, speech or even text chats via Skype, with Skype functionality directly accessable from the work. This new feature is even more complex if you work with other members of your Outlook teams who use time-saving groupware.
With all these changes, Microsoft is not only using cooperative applications like Google Apps or Zoho Office. Several of Office's collaborational capabilities are so efficient and intuitively that you may wonder why no one has thought of them before. Another change that desktops won't even know is manuscript expressions, so it allows the user to paint an expression on a tactile display and see how Office converts it into a font - impressive, but not always perfect in my ham-fisted test.
A further modification makes the conventional office applications tightly compatible with the new portable editions for iPhone and Android. Now Office 2016 is the first more or less general-purpose office applications suit, with stable releases available through any advanced web browsers and off-the-shelf desktops and platforms other than Linux. I will return to the group functions of Outlook after examining the innovations in Office's traditionally large three applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Unfortunately, the Tell Me function will not find what you are looking for in the Options panel, which is as overloaded and bewildering as in older releases. Longtime Office user will recall an old research window that had similar functionality but vanished from the Office 2013 user interfaces. Like in the case of the Research Window and other advanced functionality such as split-screen processing, multi-chapter master documents, and updatable panels, Office tends to burial rather than complete removal of older functionality.
All of the Office 2016 UI gets the vibrant full-color handling you're used to with Windows 10, and you can now select a dark backdrop for the menus to help draw your eye to your documents instead of the applications. In the Topline menue there are also some small changes, such as lower case letters on the tab pages instead of the old upper case type.
While Corel WordPefect is the only up-to-date text editor that provides easier control over style, WordPerfect is still a unique tool used almost exclusively by long-time loyaltyists and legitimate customers who need its unique functionality. We have learnt that Excel viewers like diagrams, so the new release contains some show-stops that were previously available from third-party add-ins - parareto diagrams, sunburst and cascade diagrams that show the impact of accumulative changes in a range of swimming block shapes like those in Super Mario Bros.
Experienced Excel practitioners know the tedious feat of creating a cascade diagram by making the bottom of a notepad hidden, but the one-click Microsoft is much more stylish. Every months, Microsoft is committed to adding new charttestyles for Office 365 recipients. Meanwhile, Excel includes an integrated prediction function that generates prediction graphs on the basis of available information, and graphical functions such as animation to transform one graph category into another, if you choose a different graph category.
While PowerPoint has not seen any significant changes beyond the advanced collaborative capabilities that have been added throughout the entire set, one Microsoft representative suggested that some large new PowerPoint capabilities will be available to Office 365 customers in the relatively near term. Meanwhile, PowerPoint is lagging slightly behind Apple's keynote in graphical illusion, but only slightly, and not enough to get someone to select Apple's iWork over Microsoft Office as their favorite office suite. However, PowerPoint's iWork is not enough to make them decide to use Apple's iWork as their iWork.
Next to the "Tell Me" field, the other new function in the main Office window is the "Share" tab on the far right. It opens a share area (or, if you want, a pending menu) where you can ask others to display or modify your documents, and allows more than one user to work on the same documents at the same timeframe.
It seems to prevent two people from working on the same phrase or phrase at the same moment, although this was inconsistent in my tests, and when I tried to work with a person working in one webbrowser and in another person in Office it sometimes took more than a minutes to synchronize the two editions of the work.
Like the similar function developed by Google Docs, a color highlight in the documents shows where everyone is working, but Office 2016 displays the full names of your co-editors, while Google displays only an intial ( "Office in a web browser" displays only a color highlight).
And as you would think, you need to store collaboration on a Microsoft cloudserver, either on OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or an Office 365 SharePoint site. The advantage of saving your document in Microsoft Web Publishing is that you can easily retrieve earlier Google Docs like Google Docs, along with the name of the various contributors who kept collaboration document at different time.
There is a new "History" page in the "File" submenu that opens an area listing stored releases; click an entry in the drop-down box and the earlier release opens in a new browser popup so you can modify it as a stand-alone release or copy text and images to the latest release. Some new capabilities are only apparent when you use an Office 365 Professional or SharePoint service, although other new capabilities are available to anyone with a Microsoft user or not.
Drop-box viewers see this as a complement to the multi-level process of getting a shortcut to a saved Drop-box and then inserting the shortcut into an email as well. Benefits of this new Outlook approach are easy e-mail messaging and the possibility to refresh a page after you send the links, so that the receiver of the files always opens the latest one.
Outlook provides an Outlook group function for Office 365 Business enterprise users that allows them to notify the group and easily exchange workloads. There' always something old and new in the latest Office version. Microsoft Office 2016 still contains Microsoft Publisher, the page design application that used to be used to create menues and posts and is probably still used today, although I've never seen anyone who does.
And, the Access application is still available for those who want to create customized data-driven apps, but it has not been upgraded since 2013. One new member of the Office suite is a cloud-based presentations application named Sway that can be downloaded for free, even if you don't have the remainder of Office.
You' re reading a swing by sliding through it up and down or right and lefthand in a web-brower - it's most at home in Windows 10's new Edge browsers - and here and there clicking on slide shows or similarly animation or extensibility functions. Apart from the fact that Office is Microsoft's most important authoring plattform, there is no particular why it should be part of Office, and it does not sharing information or anything else with other Office applications.
Those who are reading your Sways may find them a little annoyed, as I did, because the built-in animation and transitioning slows down your accessing the Sways. In Office 2016, you'll find old geologic strata of characteristics that haven't been enhanced in years because too few use them. It is terribly complex and creates a file that tends to get damaged, so the term among Office veteran users is that you should not use. An enhanced and upgraded release would, however, be at home in Microsoft's new collaborative capabilities, and perhaps Microsoft will give it a new look for a new release in the near term.
In order to know the differences between Office 365 and Microsoft Office, you need to be an Microsoftese specialist. The Office 365 is a range of subscriptionservices, from college and private schedules to complete business schedules; all these schedules comprise a constantly upgraded Microsoft Office applications suitcase, clouds and various other capabilities, some of which have been developed for small companies or groups of companies.
The Microsoft Office family of applications is available under a standard, stand-alone, perpetual licence (not yet approved for Office 2016, without a publication date) and via an Office 365 subscriber. Office 365 customers will receive Office 2016 and later upgrades and improvements that are not visible to purchasers with indefinite licenses. Unlimited purchasers have the versions they purchase, although you can still count on the common troubleshooting and safety upgrades.
However, Office 365 customers receive month-to-month upgrades that incorporate new diagram style in Excel and new functionality not yet released in PowerPoint. Until the end of the year, Office 365 customers will see a What's New icon in their Office applications that describes the new functionality in detail; until then, you will need to explore the new functionality yourself or check one of Microsoft's blog.
Everyone who subscribed to Office 365 should not be hesitant to switch to Office 2016 if it is available. It has a shallow learn path for the new release, a simpler user experience, new functions don't get in the way of old ones, and you don't loose anything when they're up-dated. Unlimited Office 2013 customers may find the new release attractive, and the new diagrams in Excel are valuable for the costs of the upgrades, but Office 2013 will do a great job in the years to come, and the upgrades are usually option.
Although you still use Office 2010, as I sometimes do on an old notebook, it's worth the effort to update, but it's not absolutely necessary. Office 2016 stands out from the rest of the market, but it's not always the best. Corel WordPerfect Office can't compete with Word in overall performance, but it outperforms Word in some specific functions, such as managing multiple chapters of Word and precisely controlling document formats, which is often annoying in Office.
Apple' former iWork Suites - pages, numbers and keynote - is stunningly nice to look at, and Keynote makes slightly more stunning presentation than even PowerPoint, but these applications only run on Apple's platforms, while Microsoft Office 2016 for the Mac far outperforms them in performance and cross-platformability. Everybody is sometimes angry about Microsoft Office, but for anyone who has serious work to do, it's almost not possible to think of a life without it.
All in all, Office 2016 is a stunning performance and the unrivalled Editors' Choice in its category.
