There is a significant increase in interest in medical writing professions..... For example, people with mature bio-medical and bioscientific qualifications are also looking for a career outside the academic world. In view of these facts, an advisory board of experienced physicians led the creation of a Medical Writing Certificate Programme at the University of California, San Diego.
It has been developed to give alumni the basic expertise and abilities they need to work as medical writing professionals in the business, regulatory and/or academic sectors. It will endow researchers and others with a broad bio-medical and/or bioscientific backgrounds to specifically address a scholarly audience. This certification will prepare the student to take on well-paid medical writing roles in four different subject areas: for those who want to impart academic information to laypersons, e.g. academic writing, medical communication, or medical writing.
The programme is developed to provide researchers and others with a broad bio-medical and/or bioscientific backgrounds to contribute to writing for a scholarly audience in peer-reviewed periodicals, regulation papers, medical teaching material and/or research grants. So who should take the certification with them? Acceptable candidates have a degree in biomedicine or a degree in a variety of fields such as biological science, chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, medical science, healthcare, medical science or dietician.
PhD' are particularly suited for medical writing jobs in the business and academia sectors. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of technical editors in the healthcare industry will increase by almost 27% between 2012 and 2022. The latest figures from the American Medical Providers Association (AMWA) show that salary rises for medical authors were more than twice as high as the rates of annual inflation and rose with their certifications.
Writing in medicine provides a worthwhile and stimulating intellectual careers, with six-figure pay for older authors. A lot of medical authors run their own business as freelancers. A few biology doctoral students on college premises are able to get a job at the department or a lab on college campuses; medical writing provides an alternatives to a well-paid job. In order to obtain your certification, you must have completed all necessary course work with a B-/80% or higher. Combine your training in the class-room with real-life situations through a Next Step Experiential Course. Specifically conceived courses allow pupils to gather practical knowledge by working in close collaboration with lecturers and/or colleagues on actual work.
Throughout this course, the student applies all previously learnt approaches to carry out one or more research in one of the four pre-identified medical writing areas (Scientific Grants, Continuing Medical Education, Publication or Regulatory). Do you have a clear feeling for the discerning behaviour and hands-on working methods that make the students a better medical writer? In order to participate in this course, you must have a B-/80% or higher score on all other courses of the Medical Writing Progam.
