This is the story of an Irishman who outsmarts, outsmarts and outsmarts thousand of rival ships to take over Nevada's Comstock Lode-the wealthy golden and silvery bodies so precious that they have transformed the fate of the United States.
This is the story of an Irishman who outsmarts, outsmarts and outsmarts thousand of rival ships to take over Nevada's Comstock Lode-the wealthy golden and silvery bodies so precious that they have transformed the fate of the United States. John W. Mackay, John W. Mackay, born in 1831, was a destitute Irishman who grew up in New York City, went to California during the rush for goldrush and was dismantled for eight years without much fortun.
In 1859, when he learned of wealth on the other side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Mackay gave up his right and went 100 leagues to Comstock Lode in Nevada. In the course of the next ten years, Mackay worked his way up out of nowhere and thwarted the disastrous "bank ring" franchise to take command of the most focused supply of bullion ever found on the planet, the mythical "Big Bonanza", an amazingly wealthy solid of bullion and bullion that was found 1,500 ft under the roads of Virginia City, the supreme Old West booming city.
After Mackay' s death in 1902, he was celebrated on the front page in Europe and the United States as one of the most revered Americans of his time. With great historical photos and charts, The Bonanza King is a shimmering journey de force, a gripping story of Virginia City, Nevada, Comstock Lode and America itself.
