Twenty-eight agents who want your job
Like in the past years, Writer's Digest has compiled a long line of frahlings who are open to working with new authors. We have a wide range of professionals in our agency guides - some new and some proven and represent a wide range of different classes and styles. But this year we haven't just enumerated whole agents, we have enumerated them.
If you look at information for an whole office, it is not always simple to say which employees are really looking for new authors and which do not have the necessary amount of information to defy the mud. It allows you to contact certain experts who have acknowledged to WD that they are open to requests from new authors.
So what do agents do? Frahlingen act as doorman; they take the best new materials and present them to the publishers for examination. That'?s where the agents come in. Sifting through a bunch of poor writings, they find the young writers, and in return for the representation of their project, an agency earns 15 per cent of all the dollars they earn should a sales go through.
On the subject of cash, you know that lawful agents should not levy any charges to assess your work or subscribe you as a customer (and none of the ones mentioned here). Several of the agents are members of the Association of Authors' Agents (AAR), which means that they follow an ethical approach when interacting with customers.
An author can sometimes write articles without an agency, and perhaps even fictional niches, but more than likely, you need a representative.
