To use these book authoring utilities, click the "Click to Launch Writing" icon. These are instructions for how to format your book in Microsoft Word (2010). Restart your own documents from the ground up, or download our free set of style sheets to get to work. To do so, click on "size">> "More card sizes" and put the file to 6 "x9" (or your book size). I recently (2014) realized that the spine of the book from Cratespace is much more stuck together, so the groove has to be a bit larger.

You can copy and past your text into the text (or, if you have already written in Word, store the text as a new text element (to be on the safe side) and then begin it. It is also a good idea to make sure that your section titles do not contain an indentation so that they are really centred. Now, you may want to design the first movement.

Probably "Link to Previous" is chosen at the top of the menue. On the other pages you want a hyperlink to the previously chosen pages). I enter "book title", get the right styles and store it as a new fast header for it. If you want to point your header and footer outwards, make sure they are on the page with the smaller dots.

Then instead of pasting the page number back in, I can simply choose and copy the page number box from the preceding page and past it into the page footing - like the left-justified page head. There is a little too much room between my page titles and the contents.... but that's because I have my top margin at 1" (a little much).

Now the whole first section should look quite good. When I want to stylize section wraps, I might..... be an easy way to use the "First Paragraph" styles again with all uppercase letters on the first words, but no drops. Once I have reached the end of the section, I place the mouse pointer under the text, choose Page layout>> >>Breaks >> and click on "Next page" again.

Since this is the first page of a new section and we have chosen "Other first page", this page should be empty, without header and footer, so that you can design it like the first one. It is difficult to coordinate everything exactly in Word. If you want to make it 100% consistency, the best way is to choose and copy the first section, complete with blanks and section headings, and then paste the first page of the next section.

I can then simply edit the text in "Chapter Two". Alternatively, you can simply choose the page number box from the preceding section and copy it to the defective box. When you get bogged down with something, it will probably be with the headers and the footer and the page numbers. Both right and left orientation can be bewildering, even if you view it in two page view, because Word may not display it the way it is actually printed.

When you used the "Heading 1" type, Word added your chapter to the menu that you should see on the menu on the lefthand side of the menu. Let's go back to the front and insert the "front matter", which includes the index. Much of this is already done for you in my styles.

I' ve made them to help independent writers saving a lot of valuable resources without making layouts and format errors. Place the pointer in front of the first section and insert a new "Next page". If you add a headline or footing line to these title pages and a later page is placed on "Link to Previous", be a little more cautious. The headlines and footing lines in the entire book will be deleted when you do so.

Instead, go to the next page with the headings and deactivate "Link to previous" - then you can remove the headings on the cover pages. In addition, the copyrights page is usually on the back of the cover page (on the left), while the dedications, table of contents and section one usually begin on the right - that means you have to put some empty pages in between.

I sometimes have to use a genuine book, or display the pages on my hands and turn my palms back and forth to do it right. Hint - some of them have all the pages on the right - if you want to do this, simply insert an additional empty page by inserting more "Next Page" fractions, and make sure they are not linked to any header or footer so that they remain empty.
