Sending manuscripts according to standard guidelines
Whilst many publishers are accepting emails, others still favour the post. We will answer all your queries and supply you with everything you need to send your manuscripts with trust and serenity. When you submit a script, you probably have a lot of questions: How big is the cover?
Are you sure it's okay to unfold the wrapper to put it in the cover? First, you must go on-line and go to your preferred publisher's entry area. Please study with care their own special instructions for the filing of manuscripts. When they don't, you can be sure that the default policies are in order.
The default guidelines for submitting a script varies slightly, depending on the overall page length of the packet you are submitting. You must send at least one self-addressed, prepaid covering note (SASE) and a suggested work. Several publishers want you to send in your complete script, especially if you write shorts, poems or storybooks for them.
Due to the different page numbers, the shipping method for these items also varies. This is the basis for submitting a manuscript: 5 x 11 x 5 x 11 x 17 Printable hard copy of your covering note, proposed books and/or manuscripts. It is your default printing stationery and you can find it in almost every shop in the stationery sector.
In order to give them something else, you will be marked as an anamateur and your script will meet the denial stack before the first words are ever read). Ensure that you are using a number 10 paper shopping bag. Use a 44-cent mark and the cost will increase until the moment the publisher processes your script, he would have to charge extra for it.
Next, you can put your name and your postal code in the middle of the cover, or you can tap and run the cover through your print or make an mailing labels to affix to the cover. These three options are all accepted, just so that your email is readable and actually on it.
It' important that your script has the right order of content. 1 page covering letters next, suggested book/manuscript below. For a total of 6 pages or less in your covering note and your proposed text or script, use a default page number 10. Then, staple the paper as ordered above, place your sliders vertically and in the center of the paper pile and divide the whole pile (including your sliders) into one-third so that they glide cleanly into the outside sleeve.
It' totally tolerable and you are asked to unfold your document. However, make sure you are waiting several hour or a full working days after you print your document to prevent stains. No large, dedicated cover is required for these files. Again, if there are 6 pages or less, everything fits into a #10 cover, even with the SASE bound.
When your covering note and your proposed text or your script together comprise more than 6 pages but less than 30 pages, use a default 9 x 12 paperback envelop with metallic closure. You can use the default colour scheme - with something non-professional you won't receive any prizes at the editorial workstation!
While you must staple your docs exactly as they appear above, you will NOT be folding your FOLDER or your ADFs. Instead, first send the cover of your copy of Manuela to the publisher. The first way is to rotate the cover laterally so that it is horizontally rather than vertically. You are now prepared to send the cover to a Sharpie store in the middle of the cover, which you can easily read and write out.
Using this technique, you can insert several pages of scraping tape into the cover to prevent the markers from penetrating. Never perform this operation after you have inserted your document in the cover. There is a good possibility that the markers will flow and destroy your document.
Secondly, you can have a mailing tag printed and affixed to the cover. Stage 5: Be sure to provide a home delivery adress! That might seem natural, but you must also indicate your sender' s name on the cover. This can also be marked with a sticker or a returns-sticker.
The sender' s adress is in the upper right hand side of the cover and should be smaller than the publisher' adress in the centre of the cover. You should also use markers if you use markers to indicate the publisher's adress.
When you use a label, use it for both the publisher's and your sender's adress. Our aim is to make the cover look as tidy, consistent and professionally as possible. When you have finished addressing your document pile and your Manuela cover, open it and push the whole pile with the front side down into the cover.
You' ll have to paste your document in this way, because when the cover is opened, the back of the cover will face the editors and when he or she extracts your document, they should remove everything face up, with your suction bag on top. When your parcel has more than 30 pages, you must use a shipping carton instead of an Envelope.
Choose the default 3 Days, Preference shipment time. It also gives you a voucher to follow your parcel so you can be sure that it will arrive at the publisher. Do not send your parcel by registered letter or request a proof of postage unless the publisher recommends it.
You' re all set for publication! This may seem a bit too much or even a little bit bewildering, but it is important to know what to do when you send your work to a publisher. In this way you prevent your work from being refused because it does not comply with the publisher's policies.
