Selecting the right format for your textbook
In the past the choice of a printing size was quite simple: you had to find the right printing size for every work. When you chose to use several different printing sizes, the only issue to be resolved was: how long should it take between the start of the first issue and the publication of the second or third issue?
With the development of audio books and the now obsolete CD-ROM, these were not widely used and were not an important aspect for many people. Originally, when e-books were launched, most publishing houses did not see them as a size that could rival printed versions on the open market.
In publishing agreements, they were recognized as "electronic editions" and originally incorporated into the ancillary right part of a contractual agreement, where they were regarded as copyrights that could be granted to third-party firms taking over manufacturing, marketing and distri-bution. This quickly shifted as consumers' demands for e-books rocketed and they became a sustainable publication as far as many purchasers of books were concerned. As a result, the market for e-books was growing rapidly.
Editors began to manufacture and distribute their own e-books and they began to incorporate them into the initial granting of copyrights in their publisher agreements. Now, writers and editors have to make decisions on a case-by-case base whether to create e-book issues alongside their printed equivalents - and the other way around. A number of people choose to release "digital first" or even "only digital".
Certain contents feel intended for the notebook file size. Maybe you have a particularly brief or time-critical work. Or, you publish a work that needs to be periodically refreshed.
