Until you really see what you have created as a final writing tool, you will only ever be able to imagine how good you really are as a writer. To see your first movie in the making is an enthralling and humiliating one. It' the real-life test that every author really needs, more than anything else.
That is why I believe that anyone who is serious about becoming a better scriptwriter should try to hold at least two or three screenplay screenings a year. No script writing contest. I am referring to shortfilm competition, in which you have to compose a script, turn it into a movie and the award is given for the movie's qualitiy.
What's fun is that you hardly ever listen to scriptwriters talking about making shortfilms unless they're already working with an independent film-maker. Writers who work with film-makers already know the value of shortfilms, because independent film makers already enjoy them. Independent film-makers know that before you try on a particular property, you have to cover your fees by watching shortfilms.
Wish scriptwriters were more like indies. You like it because it is the best way to get to know your work. Because you can make them on a single date or on weekends. You like them because they can be split on YouTube and Vimeo.
You like them because there are always a few competitions for shorts where you can compete for your work. You' re in love with them, because all the big movie fest have "short movie corners" so that your movie takes you to Berlin, Toronto or even Cannes. Movie makers are fond of shorts.
The people who wrote about the script are as guilty as everyone else. Most of the advices we provide to authors relate to the creation of movies and drivers. The last newspaper articles I saw about making shorts, I can't recall the last one. That' s a shame, because there are many good grounds for filming: a film: a short film: a film: a film:
We have already explained the first reasons for the creation and production of short films. It' really the best way to grow as a writer. You' re typing. You' can see for yourself where your authoring skills and shortcomings lie, and because you're competing with it, you can liken your letter to the writings of other film-makers.
Second, a shortfilm must inspire the public in the first few seconds. Since most shorts become on-line contents, you never have more than fifteen seconds to win the public's interest and confidence. Microfilming is one of the major emerging technologies in this area.
The competitions often limit the length of the movie to sixty seconds, thirty seconds..... or even less. My last competition for shorts was the Four4, a movie competition where you have to tell your tale in sixteen seconds.... and tell your tale in four, four seconds long filming.
That' s our ambition to make a 16-second sci-fi movie with a less than $30 budge. I like microfilm competitions very much in view of my own screenwriting career. Considering that the audience is won and loses in fifteen seconds, every movie competition in which I have to tell a story in sixty seconds or less makes me think outside the box office.
Obviously, plot structures, conflicts and characterization are a large part of storytelling, but the keys to a good microfilm are how much history can be pushed into a cinematic second. Thirdly, scriptwriters should watch microfilm competitions because they compel scriptwriters to do one of two things: either get your iPhone and do it yourself, or get up from your desktop and begin to build connections with your own movie makers.
Both' good for you. There is a need for good screenplays by locals, and although they can't afford you, they do take part in tournaments and contests. And if you opt for the DIY/iPhone feature, you will quickly gain new layers of esteem for all types of film-makers. Lastly, scriptwriters should make shorts because they have a good upbringing.
In the case of a movie in a movie fest or in a contest, it is a movie that can create a loan on immdb. Vocally, there is a big distinction between an unrecredited writer and one with a recording of making movies. I' m not the only female writer who thinks that short movies are an important part of every writer's evolution, Lucy Bang2Write's Lucy F Hay says exactly the same thing in her story about how to maximize your work.
On the other hand, you get some profits under your belts with a brief movie and your tread really begins to start. Also, a movie that won in a festival/competition is simple to participate in other contests and celebrations. I made a one-minute movie in about six lessons last year.
That' s a fairly good yield for a six-hour job. When you are serious about becoming a good scriptwriter, I ask you to reserve a few day a months for filming. You can find a cute little competition like the Four4 or one of Raindance's shorts and try it.
