To You Want to be a Children's Illustrator ?
A good children's illustrator can remain with us until he or she reaches the age of majority and is often divided between parents and orphans. Childrens illustrations work in a wide range of mediums, from textbooks to web contents to products designs. I' m going to describe the different parts and works of some of my illustrations, who kindly took the liberty to reply to my interviews and take a look behind the curtains.

Illustrating books: Many of the children's literature is illustrating from the cover to the contents. As they are rather poor in words but strong in image, this is one of the best-known professions for them.

Textiles illustration: They have mostly been illustrating everything from fabric printing to a wide range of T-shirt styles, children's wear and various garment accessoires. Self-employed or for large corporations such as Disney or The Children's Place, artisans are always making works of art that are imprinted on a wide range of textiles.
Childrens magazines are full of illustrative quality, because communication with kids who can't yet or just learn is hard without a great deal of pictures. The illustrator is there to convey our little ones a wide range of different kinds of idea. Are you working as a freelancer or in-house? The majority of the artist I interview are freelancer working with publishing houses and a wide range of businesses on a free-lance or contractual work.
There are internal jobs, but they are usually a job that combine graphics and other skills to create contents for them. Compromising is having someone to take your work to a potentially large paid customer list, allowing the performer to concentrate on producing contents rather than promoting their work and trying to make links themselves.

When working in children's literature, the illustrator usually works with the publishing houses and sometimes also with the author himself. The collaboration is similar to that of other free-lance artists, whether an artists has contacted a publishing house, worked with an agents or was included in a scoute.
We send documents to the artist, they work out the budget and dates, drafts, concepts as well as artwork is sent back and forth until a finished work. When it comes to children's publications that have nothing to do with books, such as games, clothes and more, the artist often works with an artist's own artistic team.
Like in other freelancing works, the performer receives a detailed job specification, detailed projects are worked out and drafts, ideas and works of art are sent back and forth until a job is over. Customers who create contents for children's medias often look for colourful, funny works of art that appeal to them.
With what kind of medium do children's illustrators use? There were artworks that were very different from the artist I was interviewing. There is a long tradition of both conventional and graphic design in children's literature. When it comes to textbooks and other printed material, the conventional mediums still have a good home. Clothes with drawn images can also be produced, according to the type of imprint.
However, most garments and web or consumer electronics are produced in digital form. Usually vectors are the way for T-shirts and other silkscreens. You can also use digital painting and other raster-based work for many different types of work. Do you know what makes a good children's painting? Stupidity, colourful arts and the consciousness of what is the reaction of young people make great childrens work. Much of the contents for childrens are focussed on teaching, as teaching is one of the biggest niche areas for children's work. A good illustrator for a child knows the possible message, whether it' good or bad, that he can give to a child. In certain age groups a child is not able to handle abstracts the way grown-ups do. Although many children's medias seem rather psychoactive, they are used by the child as a stimulus and not as a narration or something that should "make sense".
Therefore, if they want to transmit a message, children's medias must be unbelievably visible, taken up by a child and easy to repeat. "What makes a good painting for a child is the first thing that comes to my head, the use of colour. A good illustration for kids does not necessarily have to be the most attractive or skilful. Kids often react well to simple works or even simple style (just think of a child's own drawings). There is a great deal that can make educational work for kids as good for them. To know that something you make, be it a T-shirt theme or the art work for a picture book, can be something they see over and over again or with which they interoperate every day and recall into their adult years, can seem a little discouraging to them.
Touching the daily lives of our coming generation with your pictures, illustration or even scribblings can also be a worthwhile thought and adventure. Illustration for kids is different than for the elderly. Whilst many who produce contents for kids on a free-lance basis, some work with businesses that specialise in children's music.
When illustrating for children's literature, you should consider building your own portfolios with this in view and whether you want to work with an agents or agencies. Like any other commercial work, you need to be well-managed, meet your deadline and work with whomever you work to make your projects a success.
