Thematica:: Belletristic Software
There are a few things to say about Screenplay Systems' Dramatica programme for creatively written texts. Firstly, before you buy, you should know that this piece of furniture is built on a very thorough and complicated theories of how history works. How To Use A Novel is only a brief insight into the whole of Dramatica theories.
In a well organized history, the theoretical approach shows how action components, personalities and different kinds of subject matter are in a balance - a relation that can be mathematically described. This latest release of the program detects over 32,000 possible arrangments of storyline items that are dramatic (although theoretically fourfold as many are possible).
32,000 more tales than you'll ever need. The same narrative could also be used for tens of books without being over-formulated. They use similar textures, but they are completely different histories. Players are invited to make decisions about items in their history - either a history that they are writing or one that they have just created but want to do more.
Every choice you make restricts the range of storyline shapes until there is only one texture that suits all your choose. This is where the casino gives you information about which other items you should include or how you can customize the other items to make your storyline full, well-structured and emotional.
Consequently, the casino is properly sold as the only products that can tell you things about your history that you didn't know. There are currently two different editions of the program for Windows-based systems:..... It is a lightweight and less functional release, but can be a good option if you don't want to get too bogged down in these theories.
It is the full edition for Windows. They both use the same proprietary mathematic pattern of storyline structures. In the Mac release, functions have been added to make it easy to create stories by substituting slang with words of the author's choice. Second thing you should know about this piece of code is that it is disputed.
Some people feel insulted by the fact that math can be used on an artist's undertaking such as plotting stories. But on the other side, the fictional is not the first kind of artwork in which math describes its structures. In addition, more and more popular writers and scriptwriters are praising the benefits of both theories and on-the-fly.
A further problem with the softwares is that you have to be able to fully appreciate theories. Whilst the program contains a lot of help in each phase and is supplied with a free downloadable copy of the theoretical textbook, the study curves are quite high. It is a completely different way of looking at a story than most of us are used to, and it needs a lot of getting a complete picture of it.
It is known that authors devote many month to learn theories ( "and not many tales are told in the meantime"). Another disadvantage is that the program was developed some years ago. Whilst the Mac release has recently been upgraded, the Windows release is missing some of the navigational capabilities you'd expect in most applications, and it needs to be upgraded to incorporate all the Mac's capabilities.
Apart from that, there are many good things that make Dramatica a rewarding investments. In spite of all its flaws, Dramatica is undoubtedly an ingenious work. Both Melanie Anne Phillips and Chris Huntley, who created both theoretical and practical applications, have made a completely unique and monuments to our comprehension of how to create good story.
It is my firm belief that one of these doctoral candidates will one of these days write Ph. When you are a novelist, the application can help your storyline have a good storyline, good personality building, and a strong theme. It has been conceived in such a way that you can go many different ways to design the layout of your history.
Now you can begin with the query system that will guide you through a set of issues that will help you construct your history. This is the best way for the beginner.) The program provides multiple layers of help in each phase. If you have made at least one important selection, you can view the whole history in the topic browser or in the "Plot Progression" window and make further decisions from this view.
You can use the application to generate a wide range of printouts of reports that look at the decisions you make and the relationship between the various storyline components and help you comprehend your storyline in a very profound way before you begin to write (if you are a plotter) or if you hope to enhance an already existent one.
I should say one last thing.... the makers of Dramatica were primarily interested in scripting, so the program thinks that's your interest too. The majority of the stories come from movies. But it can be used for any kind of literature. For a copy of Dramatica you can find here the latest Amazon offerings for each of the three releases.....
