Letter of the book review
Book review is one of the most frequent and frequently misinterpreted tasks in colleges. Good book review should critically comment on the book's quality: the theory and the most important points, the organisation and format, the scientific equipment, the authors value and beliefs.
Of course, a good book review shows (briefly!) what the book contains - the content. However, the review should focus much more on assessing the book's strong and weak points. In the end, the book review should provide an explanation for the question: "that would be a good book to read?
Please use the following check list as a guideline for critically reviewing books. Who' s the writer and what' s his prejudice? Which are the most important points the book's authors make? a) Does the writer justify his points in a satisfactory way with information, logics, samples, etc.?
Is there anything about this book that interests or disturbs you, e.g. uncommon information or new perspectives on a subject? Is there any question in this book that the writer does not reply to? When you have been reading other textbooks on the same general subject, how is the book compared?
Even more importantly, how does the rendition (thesis) of this book differ from that of the others? Is there any extra commentary you should add to make the heart of this book understandable to someone who reads your review?
