UNFCCC ENG 231 Introduction to the curriculum for creative writing
ENG 231 Intro to Creative Writing! Writing creative, focusing on writing creative non-fiction, literature and literature. Or in other words, we will be studying the most important creative writing styles to help you get ready for high quality creative writing classes in literature, creative non-fiction and poetics. You' ll be writing a bit of creative non-fiction, a bit of fantasy and two or three verses.
Who is a curriculum? A syllabus is a "contract" between instructor and pupil. It describes what you can ask of me and what I want from you. Please ensure that you have fully understood and understood the curriculum and ask me if you need to clarify anything.
At the end of the course you should be able to comprehend:: You will receive a graduation mark that combines these factors: presence; taking classes; writing and quizzing in the classroom; critical reviews of workshops; taking part in an external meeting or writing a review; a finale portfolio. Although the assessment of creative writing is at least to some extent a submissive exercise, we will endeavour to make the assessment as impartial as possible.
outside-writing event/book critical (100 points): I will not be credited if I do not get your entry /book review. Feel free to submit your reports at any point up to the last scheduled lesson. Extracurricular writing activities are for example a Loch Norse-supported last Friday of every monthly read at the Bowtie Cafe, a guest author read, or the creative writing board at the English Department Colloquium's April of each year.
When I hear about the possibilities, I will make an announcement in school. Enrolment (100 points): The entry is evaluated separate from the entry, and these are the 100 points referred to here (of course you cannot enter if you were away, so the entry will also affect this grade).
It' possible to just let the entire group fall apart due to undue outages. Writing and practice (100 points): Here, too, the presence plays a role, as one obviously cannot practice in the classroom when not there. It is not possible to do lessons for missed courses. Each writing activity in the grade varies in value according to how many we do during the term.
Reviews of workshops (200 points): In the case of workshops reviews, the evaluation is determined by the level of the reviews you have submitted and your voice feedback during the workshops. Also, please be aware that if you are not in your classes, you will not be able to attend a session that goes beyond the publication of your review, and you will not be fully recognized for this session.
Finale Chapter and Reading (500 points): That'?s the core of the group. In the last year of the term you will submit a chapter book with poems, a creative non-fiction book and a brief history, all of which have been reworked from early designs debated in the workhops. It is expected that your'final' edits are more substantive than simply checking or fixing spelling/grammar errors.
If you do not hand over your position at all, this will of course lead to 0 points and the price will fail. The classification of the portfolios will be primarily due to the power of the definitive revision compared to the predecessor but I will also ensure compliance with the correct scripting.
I' d like to point out that I won't compare your work with someone else's work in school. I am looking for the improvements you yourself have made from the design you submitted to the shop to the end result and see how you are integrating the capabilities and know-how you have gained from the materials presented to you.
No text is needed for this course - all teaching materials are created using flyers and/or materials that you can copy and/or retrieve from Blackboard. The cost of this course will not be a text book, but the cost of photocopying your workshop and your writing reviews of the work of your fellow students.
However, it is an important part of our course. The more you browse, the more you do. It is different from what we do in other language courses: you are asked to learn to speak as a novelist and to learn the art of creative writing from accomplished people.
I' d rather you take chances with your writing than play it safe. No. I am available as a ressource for this course and will try to answer your emails (usually the best way to reach me) or telephone call as soon as possible and, if necessary, find a meeting with you.
In case you do not get a response from me, please believe that I have not received the email for some reasons and resend it. I' ll publish the curriculum and other necessary information on Blackboard --- mark it in your webbook! Classification Guidelines & Expectations: Furthermore, I am expecting your full attendance in the course when you are there, or that will also impact your mark.
Partizipation - what is it? All students are expected to participate in our workshops and in our supplementary course materials. So the more you bring to the school, the more we'll all be learning. My preference is not to call upon folks and make them answer - this is not attending classes.
If you are away, you cannot attend, of course. We all have our free time, but I don't anticipate everyone to be "on" every single child's time. When you attend classes, you will be credited the full amount for your enrolment; if not, you will not.
Even if there was a trivia, test or writing task in your classes on a non-working days, you will not be credited for this work. When you know that there are problems preventing you from taking this course on a regular basis, I strongly recommend that you rethink your participation, as bad participation will seriously impair your grades.
Delay and premature departure from the course are regarded as subabstracities. So if you have to depart early, please let me know before classes begin. Browsing the web on a notebook or work that has nothing to do with this course is also regarded as an absentee. Learn more about participation: During the lectures I strongly urge the student to ask a question and begin the debate on any point that is made.
As you ask more quizzes, the better your classes will be and the more you will be learning. Again, we will buy our work during the lessons, so it is important that your inputs are given for the work of other schoolchildren. You should be expecting to talk each and every meeting, but keep in mind that participating also means actively listen and encourages others to bring their voice into the discussion.
Anyone who answers "Well, I liked it" or "I didn't like this paragraph" will be asked immediately: Delayed deployments or failures to get the necessary materials into the classroom make it hard for all schoolchildren. Behaviour in class: If you talk, you should be expecting other pupils to hear what you are saying without speaking to each other or making non-constructive comments - you should do the same when others are not.
Their attitudes are an important part of our involvement. Mobile telephones and pagers: should be turned off or set to vibration mode: unless a call is an emergencies, I anticipate that you reply to it after the lesson or during the interval. Don't text during lessons. You' re regarded as out of the office when I see that you're listening to your news or SMS on your telephone during a course or workshop.
It doesn't bother me when using notebooks to take a note or refer to a review of the workshops you made. But if you use your notebook to connect to Facebook, Twitter or other online communities, or if you check your emails or surf the Internet by chance, I will consider you out of the office for this course.
Throughout the workshop I am expecting laptop computers to be shut down - you should be able to see your writing criticism, and there should be no need to be on your computer. Classy:: There is no question that the structures of each group will be different, but most groups are made up of: a course on the topic; a debate on the topic; demands on the group:
You submit the latest design of a brief history or article for the work shops, with a copy for each student in the group. "The " real " script styles dictate two-line, one-sided pages, but for the purpose of the course (and to keep the cost of photocopying low for all) we ask you to provide your works and use both sides if you like.
They pass them on to the students; their work will then be reviewed at the next week's workshops after everyone has had the chance to review and criticize them. Her criticism of a student's work should comprise marginals on the original script and a (printed, non handwritten) two-line page with summarizing comments and criticism (approx. 200 - 300 words).
These summarizing criticism should include two to three sections with your general, general commentary on what the play work (and why) where it is not so good for you (and why), along with any proposals you might have on the revision of the work. Due to the nature of the workshops, in which not everyone necessarily has to talk, on the evening of the workshops you have to give me an expression of your criticism for each script so that I can see your thoughts and to be able to hear your criticism.
I do not believe that you have not reviewed or criticized the work if I do not get a copy of your criticism, and I will not give you recognition for this work. There are two things you have to do if you miss a class: you have to give the pupil a copy of your review and the highlighted script the next time you are in your classes, and you also have to give me a copy of your one-sided review - you will get half for this one.
I do not believe that if you do not give me a copy of your review of the work, you have not been reading it or have not made the review. Their one-sided summarizing criticism of the students must be entered or expressed! Manuscript reviews tell me that you didn't do the review until the last moment and probably thought very little about it (and then you have to do it twice - once for the pupil and once for me).
I expect that every participant will attend at least two workshops during the year. We will distribute the registration form on the second of the course; you will get a copy of the course timetable in the third and it will also be published on the course website.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your scripts are distributed on the right evenings and that you are present in lessons on the nights of your criticism - we will not work on your work if you are not! These will be included in your definitive portfolios (see below).
Be here, take part, have a great mindset, do the work to the best of your knowledge and belief, and you needn't be worried. An " I " (Incomplete) will only be awarded in serious and well-publicized cases, such as for example in case of emergency medicine, and only if the students have finished most of the course work.
I need the students to be able to give me a fair expectation that the work will be finished within the next year. Use the right size for submitting a book to a publisher for your latest revision of your work. But:.... since the emphasis of this course is on writing good, published literature, there are some exemptions and rules here:

This code of honor is a duty to the highest standards of ethics in academia, a duty that Northern Kentucky University scholars will not personally and collectively deceive, falsehood or plagiarise in order to achieve greater educational benefit than other scholars or to prevent scholarly demands. Plagiarisms lead to an "F" for the work in questions or even to an "F" for the course, according to the seriousness of the offence.

These are only available to the teacher after the graduation and arrangements are made to ensure that your feedback is not recognized as you. When you graduate (or unsubscribe from) a course assessment, you will have entry to your graduation mark once it has been filed by the university prof.
An important final note: By choosing to remain in this grade, you agree to all parts of this curriculum. To be fair to all, the curriculum must be applied uniformly to all undergraduates. This curriculum may, however, vary during the course of the term; if this is the case, you will be informed of the variation in writing and the variation will, if possible, be in your favour.
