Creating a booklet with template
If you want to make a booklet for your schools or a booklet for an events, consider using an existing booklet template in the template booklet . Adapt the brochure template to your needs. To get the best results, adjust the template before starting your write projects. From the File pull-down list, click New from Template.
Enter Booklet in the upper right hand side of the Browse All Templates dialog box. Once you find the template you want, double-click it or choose it and click Create. It will download to Word and you can start working on your booklet. Choose File > Download As to download your brochure.
If you want to browse your brochure, click File > View Printer. Brochure artwork is created in such a way that the page order and alignment is accurate when printed on both sides of the page and turned around along the shorter side. It' s by no means a binding paper, but recently I helped someone to create a booklet making work flow, and here are the results of my experiments. It is much simpler to use one of the booklet applications, especially if you are not already acquainted with text fields in MS Word.
Texts can be complex, and at least two of the booklet applications are free. Several problems exist in the production of brochures that are produced by folds of letterhead in two halves. These are known as impositioning, and a number of OS also have been specially designed (see below).
Of course, if you are printing two pages per page (also known as 2-up ) on a single page of lettering format printing, you will need to reduce the text to a smaller number. So, if you are designing two 8. 5x11 pages and printing them 2-up, half the length is proportionately higher than the full-sized length, which means you get extras at the top and bottom of the half-length.
In order to resolve this problem, I used a user-defined page format of 5.5x8.5 instead of just reducing the page dimensions of an 8.5x11 one. When you print a very thick booklet and fold it in half, you also have to take care of the creeping - the outside needs a larger channel in the centre because they are so thick.
The ClickBook is another big booklet application that seems to be quite ingenious, but my buddies have an elaborate as well as ingenious printing system with a complex copy workflow that was in conflict with ClickBook. Instead, I turned to the three OS XX booklet applications I knew. At least one of these three applications must be downloaded and installed.
I' ve used CocoaBooklet, but all three applications work the same way. Create a PDF from any word processor and set the page break. This booklet app picks up the PDF document, moves it around the pages and reduces it to two pages per page, resulting in a new PDF booklet.
Afterwards, the PDF booklet is printed from the preview. These are my experiences of these three programmes. All my test were done on 8-page brochures. I' m not particularly worried about the pace or the pressure of very large brochures, so if these are important to you, you should probably do your own quiz.
They are small for downlaod (max. 4MB) and simple to understand. You can add all three applications as PDF services, i.e. there is a shortcut under the "Save as PDF" icon/menu in the print dialogue for all of them. This shortcut combines two of the necessary operations.
Well, the programme dossier will explain it better. BuchLightning adds _book to the name of the files and stores the booklet in the same place as the source one. You can either add a booklet extension or save all of your booklet files to a specific storage area.
Be a little cautious when you print twice. When your printout turns the page along the shorter side, all pages should be in the top right corner of the PDF booklet. When your plotter turns the pages along the long side, every second piece of two-page spread should be inverted in the PDF booklet.
You can select whether you want to use a long or a long border on some types of dual mode printing machines - either that's OK, just make sure the settings match the settings in the booklet app. Book Lightning seems to anticipate a long page turned over by operators and turning over every other page of it. When you do not have a double-sided reader, you can try printing all the uneven pages of the PDF booklet, then turn it around and slide it back into the reader and try printing all even pages.
It is known as manually operated two-way. Each of the three applications have presets to divide the booklet into even and even pages so that you can easily enter two documents instead of typing 1,3,5,7 into the page area and then 2,4,6,8. Much of my efforts went into getting rid of the additional top/bottom edge induced by 2-up stress.
Simply generate your files in Word as usual, using a normal hardcopy format, and following the prompts in your favorite booklet application. Adjust your booklet in MS Word with a half the page format of normal stationery. When I say normal I mean US 8.
5 x 11 inch format, often only known as Letter, or A4, which is used in the remainder of the word. For most countries in the hemisphere, you can easily change the page setup to A5 via File>Page. For the USA you want 5.5x8.5 inch and this demands a user-defined sheet format.
In order to generate a user-defined page format in OS X, you must open TextEdit (or Pages) and generate the user-defined one. Store the user-defined page layout in TextEdit, and all other apps allow you to select this user-defined page layout under File>Page Setup. It is interesting that some people have greyed out the user-defined format of hard copy and won't let me do that.
I' m not sure why, and it doesn't really play a role anyway, as you don't really print on this user-defined piece ofaper. If you want, you can use Word to reformat the documents for any type of printers. Word-use the selected print drivers to know what the print area is, but you won't really print from Word.
Customize the booklet to your needs. I' ve used all around edges of . 35. Occasionally, when the borders are too small, Word truncates the text because the Word printing drivers tell Word that it cannot write so well. You can also try different headers and footers setting.
Be sure to use an appropriate text font for the end result - the pages do not vary when you turn them into a booklet. The booklet can be saved as a template in MS Word. Select File>Save As and modify the document template style in the dialogue. MorphoSys Word changes the storage place to the My Templates directory for you.
Use File>Project Gallery, choose My Templates on the lefthand side and choose your brochure template to generate more brochures in the nearer future. Remark: I did it all in Apple's Pages (version 1) because my buddies thought they might want to insert pictures into the booklet, and Pages would be better for graphic arts.
Stage One: In Word, use File>Print and choose the symbol with a small PDF at the bottom to store as a PDF. Word converts your booklet into a PDF document. Stage Two: Locate this PDF in the Finder and dragging the PDF onto the CocoaBooklet App tool.
The Cocoa Booklet will then mix the pages accordingly and generate a new PDF booklet. The 5.5x8th 5 pages 2-up are placed on a sheet of sheet of paper that is in character format. Locate the PDF booklet in the Finder, open or open it with a double-click in the preview and reprint it in copy mode.
Please observe the above instructions for overprinting. It is strongly recommended that you first just start by using one page of the booklet (two pages of hardcopy, four pages of the final booklet) to test if the layout is correct and if you are satisfied with the borders and text area.
You must return to Word to resize the text. Edges are a mixture of the borders defined in Word, the borders defined in the booklet application, and the borders needed by the print engine, and I really don't get the interactions between the three borders. For those who often anticipate this, you can mix Steps One and Two by integrating the booklet application into the PDF services so that you can submit the document directly from Word to CocoaBooklet.
