Creating e-books with pages on Mac
Building an award-winning e-book on your Mac - without having to be shared through the iBooks Store - is now almost as easy as just burning a book. Apple's latest release of Pages includes strong XPUB3 filing capabilities, so you can turn almost any documents into an e-Book that can be sold through iBooks, quickly converted for Kindle, or simply shared with your boyfriends, families, or schoolmates.
Which book would you like to be published? With text-intensive textbook titles such as shorts or fiction, use a re-flowable template that changes the page number and lay-out of each book to adjust the display area of the unit on which it is used. Re-flowable artwork can contain pictures as long as they match the remainder of the text.
However, if you want to include many pictures and keep your page layout on any machine, use a permanent template instead. The Pages contains four releflowable templates: Empty book, basic, textbook and novel. While the last three are invaluable for getting a format idea, Blank Book is a good starting point.
Because Pages can auto-refresh the fonts, sizes, and other properties of any stylistic throughout the whole of your documents, you don't have to click through the whole script later to make these changes one at a stretch to avoid saving your own work. In the Blank Book template, mark all of them and remove them.
When you insert text to which you have already added a font or font, you should select them all again and then change the default text type from Default to Bodys. Pages uses the 1024x768 pixel equivalents for its documents for reflowable originals - the minimal display definition of older iPad's and the resolutions of many Kindle designs.
The use of bodystyle for your continuous text will help here; its 16 pt resolution meets the sweep spot for readability on a wide range of screens. Using the titlestyle for, you have it guess the name of your work and the heading styles for captions. Page wraps are generated before every page you add to your table of contents - more about this later.
However, for reasons of clearness, you can still generate your own page break by choosing Insert > Page Break. When you need additional fonts - for subheadings or section numbers, for example - reformat the continuous text to the required length and orientation, then click the + symbol in the top right of the ParagraphStyles list to designate and name the new font.
When installing new scripts, exit Pages before installing them to make sure they are available when you re-open the application. If you want to modify a font or other attribute, choose an entity of the desired font or attribute types - a separate section header, a continuous text section, etc. Font, height, alignment details and weights are easily found under the Style page.
Notice that I could not get a set of horizonal snippets from my pages to display in the resulting iBook. If you click on it, these changes will take place in any case of your type in your documen. This means that you cannot wrapping text around pictures; just pull your picture into the pages-files.
Styles, pictures and arrangement. Choose Move with text and then, under the Text wrap, Inline with text option. Use the Picture page to change or improve the lighting and amount of light in an enlarged or saturated picture. And, the Styles page can be used to apply cast shadow or margins to an entire picture using preferences or customizations.
Place the pointer at the desired position in the index - I suggest the beginning of the first page at the beginning of the book, after the cover page and any front page - and choose Insert > Index > Dokument. Page generate a page makeup according to the created directory.
In the standard system, the TOC is built on title stylistic entities. This can be changed in the Inspector window under the TOC page. Choose the style(s) you want the spreadsheet to contain and the spreadsheet is reformatted each time. Pages' page numbers do not appear in your definitive e-book, but each element in the spreadsheet is associated with the corresponding position in the text.
Page generate another page makeup before each occurrence of a particular type of page that you add to the table of contents. So, if you add more than one type to the list, make sure these types don't all appear on the same page so you don't get large, unpleasant, and unintentional spaces in your text.
Choose the text in the spreadsheet to alter its typeface, formatting, and other attributes. You can also enter additional texts and elements on the same page as the spreadsheet - such as a useful "table of contents" above. The Pages Novel Template contains a picture that you can edit.
However, the page format of the template is smaller than the suggested covers for the iBooks Shop (1600x2400 pixels) or Kindle Shop (1563x2500 pixels), so if you want to resell your book, your artwork may not be quite the right one. Add an picture of your choosing as a picture cap.
However, according to how you want to use the book - share it with your buddies and your families or sell it for commercial purposes - it's no disgrace to use option 1 or 2 if you don't have photo editor or graphics snippets. When you' re missing these utilities but still want a smooth front page, a fast Google lookup will uncover a wide range of on-line utilities and artwork that can help you.
Proceed to the menu item Datei > Exportieren nach > EPOB....... You can use the Categories pull-down menu to pick a default one for your book, or enter one of your own categories. After you are done, click Next.... to name your filename and specify the location. Because pages can't show an e-book before it' s previewed, you'll probably see it over and over again when you optimize, test, and re-export your book until it's just right.
As the fundamentals of this book are similar to those of a reflow-capable book, we will concentrate here on some essential distinctions. The pages still appear slightly out of centre and trimmed, and text boxes appear as dark dots. Do you recall the rules in REFLOWABLY TEMPLES about all pictures that need to be in-line? There are six layouts for Pages and, unlike the re-flowable ones, the more important thing here is the template selection.
Every template comes with ready-made pages that you can use when creating new pages for the book. If you want to create a new page in a template with a defined page format, click on the New page icon with the "+" icon in the top lefthand part of the page area. You then choose from the root pages or choose a empty page.
While you can make your own masters pages from a clean page, or make each new page empty and gradually inspire them, if you go through each template to review their masters and see which is best for your projects, your work may be rewarding. If you want to process Masters pages, choose a page from the thumbnail images on the lefthand side of the Pages panel, and then click Modify Masters page in the Inspector panel on the right.
You can move or modify items on any root page from there. In order to create the page, click on the "Add Page" icon, choose a new name for the page name, create it as you wish with blind text, and then click on the Done icon at the bottom of the screen.
So that your text flows through your documents of course, use Pages' capability to insert text fields. As soon as you have created a text field, you will see a small ring above: Insert a long piece of text into the first field and it will move and move through all the following fields as well.
Sites can see where each text field is in relation to the others and append it to the threads at the appropriate location. For example, to make a quotation that you can wind your body text around, Pages knows that you must omit it from the threads.
If you want to move a User Language User Language User Language User Language Box, delete it from the topic, or launch a completely new topic (Pages uses color-coding to differentiate it), simply click on the topic's topic number at the top of the text area. When you use a template of one category, you cannot go to another during exports.
With this new upgrade, Pages is the simplest way I've ever found to create high-quality e-books on your Mac. If you do not use Pages on a regular basis, you should only try it for this function. Do you have important hints or hints for creating EPUBs in pages I haven't listed?
